Some of the most compelling evidence of the effects of meat and dairy foods on causing inflammation and pain, arises when we stop eating them. According to the noted heart doctor, Dr Caldwell Esselstyn who helped President Clinton change his diet because of his heart disease, increasing numbers of individuals resolve their pain (arthritic, migraine, cardiac) when they avoid dairy food. Studies have shown that dairy causes inflammation, and inflammation causes pain. That’s why taking aspirin or other pain relievers reduces inflammation, and then it’s pain.

And switching to a whole-food, plant-based diet with little or no added salt, sugar and fat, produces astounding health benefits. This dietary lifestyle can prevent and even reverse 70% to 80% of existing, symptomatic disease, with an equivalent savings in health-care costs for those who comply.

Milk – a link to heart disease & cancer?

No MilkIn my goal to reverse my heart disease in 2013, I thoroughly researched, all diets to eliminate heart disease and decided a few weeks ago to go  on plant-based diet. It has been a little hard to change my ways, but it’s not been as hard as I first thought.

The one part I was skeptical of was the requirement to not consume dairy products. But research and actual studies show the benefits of avoiding dairy to prevent, or reverse heart disease and even cancer in men and women.

Research by prominent heart doctors such as Dr Caldwell Esselstyn and Dr Dean Ornish and others recommend besides not eating meat, poultry and fish,  on a plant-based diet, but to eliminate dairy also, particularly milk. Based on the overwhelming research findings I have viewed  – I have decided to eliminate milk, and milk products from my plant-based diet.

i have found that more than 70 years ago, casein (the main protein of cow’s milk) was shown in experimental animal studies to substantially increase cholesterol and early heart disease.

Later human studies concurred. Casein, whose properties, it’s important to note, are associated with other animal proteins in general, also was shown during the 1940s and 1950s to enhance cancer growth in experimental animal studies.

Casein, in fact, is the most “relevant” chemical carcinogen ever identified; its cancer-producing effects occur in animals at consumption levels close to normal—strikingly unlike cancer-causing environmental chemicals that are fed to lab animals at a few hundred or even a few thousand times their normal levels of consumption.

Prominent Doctors have conducted series of studies, and published dozens of peer-reviewed papers demonstrating casein’s ability to promote cancer growth in test animals when consumed in excess of protein needs, which is about 10% of total calories, as recommended by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences more than 70 years ago.

Since a Mediterranean diet, as espoused by most main stream heart doctors failed to reverse my heart disease, and open heart surgery and additional stents only slowed, but not stopped, the build up in my arteries,  I have decided to go full-bore on a plant-based diet.

I know eliminating milk is a touchy issue, and everyone needs to decide their own diet, but for me milk is out.
